A Message from the Principal

Marysville Primary School is situated in the picturesque township of Marysville, approximately 97 kilometres from Melbourne. Our motto, Achieving and Celebrating Excellence (A.C.E.), reflects our commitment to fostering a strong school community and taking pride in all that we do.

We provide an enriching education from Foundation through to Year 6 within a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Students are engaged and challenged in bright, stimulating learning spaces, guided by a dedicated team of teaching professionals who are committed to supporting every learner to achieve their personal best.

With an enrolment of 33 students, the school operates a three-grade structure: Foundation to Year 2, Years 3 and 4, and Years 5 and 6. Our staffing profile includes one Principal, three full-time teachers, a part-time Performing Arts / Tier 2 Support Educator, and one full-time Business Manager.

Marysville Primary School is committed to delivering high-quality education with high expectations, while prioritising student wellbeing. Teaching and learning programs are informed by data, enabling staff to support individual growth and cater for diverse learning needs. Students are encouraged to develop as confident, curious, and capable learners within a nurturing environment that reflects our core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Community.

Our vision is for students to feel deeply connected to their school, peers, and staff. This sense of belonging strengthens engagement, promotes wellbeing, supports inclusion, and empowers student voice and agency.

Marysville Primary School:

  • Delivers high-quality teaching and learning programs with differentiation and a focus on deep learning.
  • Uses data effectively to inform teaching practice and improve student outcomes.
  • Provides a diverse curriculum that develops critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, global citizenship, sustainability, and Indigenous perspectives.
  • Integrates digital technologies across the curriculum while explicitly teaching responsible cyber safety.
  • Engages students through inquiry-based learning and an understanding of each learner’s zone of proximal development.
  • Provides opportunities for students to reflect on their learning and receive timely, constructive feedback.
  • Promotes student wellbeing, social competence, and an understanding of rights and responsibilities, with a clear commitment to preventing bullying.
  • Encourages student leadership and participation in collaborative decision-making processes.

The school implements an integrated curriculum approach that acknowledges and caters for different rates and styles of learning. Students are supported to develop higher-order thinking skills, adaptability, cooperation, risk-taking, and effective communication. The core Literacy and Numeracy programs are complemented by a rich specialist program, including Performing Arts (dance and singing), Visual Arts, Nature/Nurture, AUSLAN, Cultural Studies in partnership with a Taungurung Elder, and Physical Education.

Additional enrichment includes fortnightly visits from the MARC van, supporting and enhancing the Literacy program, as well as daily participation in Smiling Minds, which promotes mindfulness and wellbeing across the school. These opportunities contribute to the breadth and depth of learning experiences available to all students.

Wellbeing is central to everything we do. Every staff member knows each child and takes a genuine interest in their development and wellbeing. A whole-school approach supports this commitment through daily Smiling Minds sessions, whole-school singing, and assemblies that celebrate student achievement across all areas of learning. Transition programs support students entering Foundation and moving into secondary education, while a buddy program assists new Foundation students to settle into school life. All teachers explicitly teach Respectful Relationships, Smiling Minds, Child Safety, and anti-bullying and cyber safety programs.

A range of extracurricular opportunities further support student engagement and wellbeing, including:

  • An active Junior School Council that organises weekly lunchtime social gatherings such as “Milo” and “Frog” sessions.
  • A daily Breakfast Club, supported by the school chaplain, community volunteers, and staff.
  • Participation in cluster-based cross country, athletics, and swimming carnivals.
  • An eight-week cross-country skiing program for students in Years 4–6 at Lake Mountain.

Throughout the year, students also participate in community-based wellbeing and enrichment activities. In Term 2, students walk the Marysville Labyrinth as part of a mindful community experience, and in Term 3, they visit Bruno’s Sculpture Garden as part of an arts and wellbeing program. These initiatives are well supported by both students and the wider community.

Marysville Primary School values strong connections with the local community and actively seeks opportunities to engage beyond the classroom. The school participates in community events and welcomes community involvement in school celebrations, strengthening partnerships and fostering a shared sense of belonging.

I would like to invite all who would like to visit our school to contact me to arrange a time for a personal tour. I would appreciate the opportunity to show you our wonderful school.

Thank you for visiting our website and welcome to our school.
